Clinical psychology is an integration of science, theory and clinical knowledge for the purpose of understanding, preventing, and relieving psychologically-based distress or dysfunction and to promote subjective well-being and personal development.
For over two decades I have worked with people to reduce their suffering and experience of conditions such as: anxiety and health anxiety; depression; stress and burnout; obsessive-compulsive disorder; responses to trauma and PTSD. I work with adults and older adults to assist with changes arising from injury or illness, loss and grief. Often alcohol use or other unhelpful patterns of behaviour or coping attempts can turn inward and lead to reduced self-esteem, confidence concerns or loneliness, or be expressed outwards and lead to anger or violence; or physical health problems.
Psychologists know some things about how the brain works, the role of thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and on a good day a little about what its like to be human. I'm not the expert in you, you are. My role will be to see what, from what I know, can be useful to help make life better for you. Your involvement and feedback is crucial. If I can't help you, I will find someone who will.
